Palms Middle School Tour

The Charnock Road community thanks KOREH L.A. in partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. for the generous donation of 1,200 new books to our library.   During the ceremony we were glad to be joined by KOREH L.A. members, Toyota Vice President of Diversity, Philanthropy and Community Affairs and President of the Toyota U.S.A. Foundation Michael Rouse, Los Angeles Unified School District Board President Steve Zimmer, as well as representatives from California State Senator Ben Allen’s office and Assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas’ office.

During the ceremony Michael Rouse, Charnock Road Alumna, reflected on the importance of literacy and education in his own life. “The most important thing Charnock gave me was an appreciation for reading and books,” he said. “When you know how to read, that’s a gift that no one can take away from you.”

Read Across Charnock is an annual reading motivation and awareness community day that calls for every Charnock Roadrunner to celebrate reading on the birthday of author Dr. Seuss.  Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

During their world tour, the Yale University Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group, stopped by Charnock Road to perform for the students and staff.
